A Poem to my Pumpkin

A poem by Lisa Weinberger

Cancer is hard enough without the complications the pandemic sets forth

No outside caregivers, too risky

No hugs from family nor friends

Perhaps all the way to the end

Frail and pale too weak for long walks

Hard of hearing to have long talks

Yet Brave and Strong Like nothing’s wrong

Your my true inspiration

And deserve my adoration

I’ll lay next to you on your final day

Holding your hand as if you can’t go

Retelling stories of all our glory

Kissing you gently, you will not be alone

Our pooches will be here licking your face

You’ve lived a life so full of grace

I’ll miss you every second of every day

And hoping there’s a hereafter so we can again play

You’re my heartbeat, my life

Don’t know how I’ll go on

But expect to hear my voice

As I’ll be talking to you all day and night long

Please think of our precious moments as you take your final breath

And know that the end is not your death

For you’ve lived a life so full, so rich

With such an impact on so many Leaving behind an incredible legacy

That will live on and on and on
